Deleware North Prt 2 Flashcards
Can you walk me through your experience with data analysis and reporting? - Revise Answer
At AT&T, I was responsible for analyzing daily and weekly reports to ensure that the performance of the network was running smoothly. I was also in charge of finding the anomalies, and doing deep dives (through analytics) on root cause of problem. At times I could solve the problem if they were simple enough such as a restart or software push, but for the most part I forward the problem on to the network Engineer.
I also worked on creating the reports and dashboard that I used to analyze. In addition I had to do data analysis and reports on many projects through out the year. For example we had a list of events that occured every year like PGA tournament, Miami Music Festical , etc. I had to do analysis, predictive modeling, forecasting before the event using historial data from past years, plus any new data that could affect the area such as the creation of a new mall or park so that the Network Engineers could make decisions on how many new sites to build in the area, how many temporary sites to bring, what parameter needed to be changed to accomodate the event.
On top of this we often worked with Marketing because they often ran special promotions that affected usage.
Once the event was done, then we had to do presentation to senior execs to present how the event went, we had to point out any problems that occured with the deep dive explanations and the action taken so that it would not happen again. All this required a lot of analysis which I did.
How do you prioritize multiple projects with tight deadlines?
I use a combination of priority matrices and project management tools.
I first assess the urgency of all the tasks and prioritize by business impact and critical deadlines.
After i do my initial priorization, depending on my familiarity with the project I will then check with the manager or stakeholder in charge to make sure that the prioritization is correct.
From there I proceed with typical PM procedures such as breaking big tasks into small ones, assigning milestones and deadlines, and delegating to appropriate PM if applicable. Weekly meetings are set up and if needed quick daily meetings to sync up and address problems will also be done. I use project management tool to manage the project. I’ve used Asana, trello, Microsoft project- my favorite is Notion
What experience do you have with SQL?
I used SQL for data extraction and analysis for monitoring the network, troubleshooting network failures, projects using predicting modeling.
How would you handle missing or inconsistent data in a dataset?
First, I assess the extent of missing data and the potential cause and investigate the root cause.
If its an anomalie in the data what is the root cause of it? Was it due to an accident on I-95? if that’s the case, we can probably strip that data out but if the anomalie comes from a street festival they have every year that day then maybe we include the data.
It All depends on the business insights we are trying to get or the questions we are trying to answer
If the issue is missing data, Is it because of a software problem? human error? data entry problem? has the date been corrupted?
I handle the problem of inconsistenty and data missing depending on the type of data and data source. At ATT we had different warehouses storing the data and some were known for issues.
Sometimes, we fixed the data if it was applicable, sometimes I used imputation techniques such as mean, or median. Sometimes we had to trash the data altogether and get it from another dataset.
Can you explain a complex data concept to a non-technical stakeholder?
Sure! I had to that many times when we had to make presentations to Sales or Customer Operations. We often could could not present the data in dashboard format to non-technical stakeholders since they couldn’t understand it.
I find the best way to explaining technical complex concepts to non technical stakeholders is to use data storytellings combining a good narrative with the data and good visuals that are simple and engaging.
How do you handle challenges in a team environment?
Well from day 1 i try to set the foundation for me to work well in a team by working on developing good communication and good synergy with my manager and with the team.
When I have to handle challenges in a team environment I approach it with collaboration and problem-solving. I rely heavily on good communication, respect, positivity, a little creativity and validation among my co workers to handle challenges.
Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years?
In 3-5 years, I see myself growing into a senior data analyst or Business Intelligent role, taking on more strategic responsibilities and mentoring junior analysts if needed.
In my other roles I have done mentoring and I enjoy it.
I’m passionate about using data to drive business decisions, and I’d love to expand my expertise bring more value to the team.
I see Delaware North as a great place to develop these skills and make an impact.”
