Definitions Flashcards
Cardiotonic agents
Drugs increasing strength of myocardial contractions in acute or chronic heart failure
Heart failure
Reduction of myocardial contractile function (decompensation). HF leads to the inability of the circulatory system to deliver the necessary amount of blood to organs and tissues.
Antiarrhythmic drugs
Drugs for the prevention and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Glycoside inotropic drugs
these are cardiotonic agents of natural origin, the nitrogen-free molecules of which consist of two parts connected by an ether linkage
Glycoside inotropic drugs consist of two parts connected by an ether linkage:
Glycon - provides the pharmacokinetics of cardiac glycosides (polarity, solubility in water, lipids and ability to cumulate)
Aglycone - structure, providing pharmacodynamics
