2
Q

Clinical Exercise Physiology
Field of Study
Scope of Practice
Other Considerations
A
- The relationship between exercise and disease
- How exercise influences the disease process
- Using exercise as a method of disease management or prevention
- Assess, plan, and implement evidence-based fitness programs that designed to improve fitness parameters
- Client’s behaviour, psyche, spirit
6
Q
Physical Activity
A
- Any body movement that works your muscles and requires more energy than resting
- Enhances or maintains overall health and wellness
Ex: Walking, gardening, playing with children
7
Q
Exercise
A
- A type of physical activity that is planned and structured
8
Q
Fitness
A
- The state of being physically fit and healthy
- The quality of being suitable to do a particular task
- Considers elements that are important for health and functional independence
9
Q
Health-related fitness
A
- Physiological parameters
- Cardiorespiratory endurance
- Muscular strength
- Muscular endurance
- Flexibility
- Body composition
10
Q
Skill-related fitness
A
- Considers abilities and expertise
- Power
- Agility
- Balance
- Coordination
- Reaction time
- Speed
11
Q
Muscular Endurance
A
- The ability of a muscle or muscle group to execute repeated contractions over a period of time to fatigue
- Muscular endurance tests stop when form cannot be maintained within 2 reps
- Maintain velocity, posture, ROM
- No rest between reps
12
Q
Flexibility
A
- The degree to which a joint moves through a normal, pain-free ROM
13
Q
Blood Pressure
A
- The pressure of blood in the circulatory system, often measured for diagnosis since it is closely related to the force and rate of heartbeat (cardiac output) and the diameter and elasticity of arterial walls (TPR)
14
Q
Hypertension
A
- A systolic blood pressure greater than 140mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure greater than 90mmHg
- A systolic blood pressure greater than 140mmHg with normal diastolic blood pressure (isolated systolic hypertension)
- Any value (transitory or sustained) that is likely to cause damage
- Any value being treated with antihypertensive medication
15
Q
Essential Hypertension
A
- Not due to an identifiable cause or underlying health condition
- Ex. Due to genetics
