Attitude
Feelings influenced by our behaviours that predisposed us to respond in a particular way to people, events and more
Conformity
Adjusting our behaviour or thinking to confide with a group standard
Social Loafing
Tendency for people in a group to exert less effort when pulling their effort efforts towards obtaining a common goal, then when individual individually accountable, basically not doing anything in a group setting
De individualization
Loss of self-awareness and self restraining when in a group situation, for example protesters wearing a mask do things that they wouldn’t do otherwise
What is group polarization?
If you discuss an opinion, with others, with the same opinion, as you, your opinion will strengthen, but if two people with opposing opinions discussed, their own opinions will become more extreme
What is fundamental attribution error?
Tendency for observers, when analyzing others behaviour to underestimate the impact of the situation and to overestimate the impact of personal disposition for example, you judge who your teachers are based on what you see in school, but that’s not who they are fully
Foot in the door phenomenon, what is it?
The tendency for people to more rapidly comply with a certain big request after they first agreed to smaller more unconscious request
Automatic mimicry
Basically, the chameleon effect we often imitate others unconsciously to fit in. This is a part of conformity as well
Social facilitation what is this?
Performance level increases when we’re watched by others
What is group think?
When a group of people need to make a decision and all the people making decision go along with what’s gonna be proposed as I just want to have harmony
What is the cognitive dissonance theory?
When your actions clash with your beliefs, your beliefs often change to accommodate what we do for example, someone hates country music, but they listen to it and like it so their belief changes
What is prejudice?
An unjust negative viewing influenced by beliefs or attitude towards an individual group and its members and involves predisposition/likelihood of doing something to discriminatory action
Types of Attitude
What is a stereotype?
A distorted and over generalized belief about a group of people based on membership in the group not an individual characteristics or facts
What is discrimination?
The act of treating groups/individuals unfairly based on race, gender, or other common characteristics
What is overt and system systemic discrimination?
Over discrimination is from an individual and systemic discrimination is across large institutions
What is racism?
Racism is discrimination taking a step further it is a particular type of discrimination. That is a belief that one race is superior to another.
