- What is the difference between separatism and irredentism?
Separatism is internal divisions within a state by a region or group seeking independence with the desire to politically secede being driven by ethnic, cultural, or religious reasons.
On the other hand, irredentism is external claims by a political nationalistic movement on a territory controlled by another state with the desire to reclaim/reunite on the belief that it belongs to their nation historically or ethnically.

Power
In general: the capability and ability to direct or influence others or the course of events
in IR: the ability of a nation to influence global events or countries (military, economic, political, soft)
Sovereignty
the authority of a state to govern itself within its borders without outside intervention
National interest
the goals and priorities of a state for its own security and prosperity that can be economic, political, military, etc.
Hegemony
the dominance of one over others with authority and influence
Balance of power
roughly equal power among states in the international order to keep states in check
How does the balance of power relate to conflict in two sentences?
It relates through deterrence and stability. The balanced distribution of power keeps major actors in place and the overall security of others safe.
Explain what unipolar, bipolar, and multipolar mean in two sentences.
Unipolar is when there is a single dominant power in the international system. It is bipolar when this control over international affairs is split between two predominant states, and multipolar when power is distributed among various major players.
