Competent person definition?
A person who has been passed as being qualified and having the required knowledge and skills to carry out a particular rule, regulation, instruction or procedure. Ie driver or driver manager
Where a competent person is permitted to travel with you in order to allow a train with an item of defective ontrain equipment to proceed to a location where the train can be repaired/ taken out of service, u must?
1) Tell the competent person which item of ontrain equipment is defective
2) Tell the competent person why they have been asked to travel in the leading cab and what they are required to do
3) Not speak to the competent person unless it is for the purpose of carrying out the requirements relating to the defective equipment
4) Make sure they know how to contact the signaller if required
5) Tell them how to stop in emergency
6) How to open cab doors

In service. Train in passenger service and following diagram. From the time starts journey to time ends journey
Next suitable location. Closest suitable location to come out of service. Such as siding platform other authorised place a train can be martialled replaced inspected repaired or taken out of service
If a competent person is required to ride with you because of defective AWS, TPWS, or DRA equipment or because of a broken or defective windscreen, what additional knowledge must they have?
Required knowledge for all of the route over which they are required to work with you.
Broken windscreen- help and advise the driver with sighting signals, speed restrictions, line side signs, level crossings stations and anything else on the line which the driver needs to be aware of
What is required if working on the outside of your train?
Contact signaller, ensure any adjacent running lines are blocked
