1) Tell the competent person which item of ontrain equipment is defective
2) Tell the competent person why they have been asked to travel in the leading cab and what they are required to do
3) Not speak to the competent person unless it is for the purpose of carrying out the requirements relating to the defective equipment
4) Make sure they know how to contact the signaller if required
5) Tell them how to stop in emergency
6) How to open cab doors

Broken windscreen- help and advise the driver with sighting signals, speed restrictions, line side signs, level crossings stations and anything else on the line which the driver needs to be aware of
