Q

What may be the indications that cabin altitude has reached 14,000-15,000 ft

A

O2 masks will deploy
FSB lights will illuminate automatically
Airbus: exit markings will illuminate
B787: 5 lo-chimes sound, cabin lights increase to full bright and PA vol max

Q

Decompression Drill - Flight crew

A
  1. Don o2 quick Don masks
  2. Extend speed brakes, reduce engine power, turn and descend rapidly (emergency descend)
  3. PA “CC EMERGENCY DESCENT” x2
  4. FC will make PA once AC levelled to safe altitude “FSM TO THE INTERPHONE IMMEDIATELY” x2

Q

Decompression drill - Cabin Crew
(When o2 masks deploy OR when advised by FC)

A
  1. Fit nearest o2 mask
  2. Sit down (on pax lap if necessary)
  3. Strap in (or ask pax to hold you)
  4. Breaths normally
  5. Note time on wrist watch
  6. Wedge trolley between seats, put brake on
  7. If possible make decompression PA (QRG)
  8. Shout commands to passengers

Q

(Continued) Decompression drill - cabin crew
IF EMERGENCY DESCENT IS HEARD

A
  1. FC will make PA to advise about emergency descent
    “CC emergency descent” x2
  2. Remain seated until FC make PA to advise the AC is levelled off and no oxygen is required
  3. PA
“FSM to the Interphone immediately” x2
  4. Cabin crew till check: toilets, galleys, crew areas
  5. ABPS brief about keeping PAX away from doors
  6. Administer first aid and PO2 as required
  7. Check for fire and structural damage
  8. FSM to update captain, receive NITS as required

Q

(Continued) Decompression drill - cabin crew
IF EMERGENCY DESCENT IS NOT HEARD

A

If no emergency descent is heard after 60s -

  1. CC nearest to flight deck must apply oxygen masks on the way to PO and proceed to flight deck
  2. Enter emergency access code
  3. Ensure flight crew are on oxygen, if not fit quick Don O2 masks (be aware of oxygen paradox)
