Deck 8 Flashcards
machine that can derive support in the atmosphere from the reactions of the air
aircraft
used to describe a machine/device that is used to for flight in the air
aircraft
2 methods of lift
lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air
other term of lighter than air
aerostats
other term of heavier then air
aerodynes
aircraft supported chiefly by it buoyancy in the air. structure sufficient volume that when filled with a gas lighter than air displaces the sourround ambient air and floats
lighter than air
it will move on its own according to wind direction
non power driven
needs external devices to dsiplace the aircraft into the air
power driven
heating the air contained in the envelope, thereby reducing its density, it only relies on the wind
Free Ballon ( hot air balloon)
a powered gas-filled balloon which can be steered. its a cigar shaped bag or valloon that is filled with a lighter than air gas
airship
sustained inn atmosphere by self-generated aerodynamic force/ aerodynamic lift/ it needs a power source
heavier than air
an engine driven, fixed wing, heavier than air aircraft is suppoed in flight
airplane
produced by a set of rotating airfuls called main motor
rotocraft
derives both lift and control from one or more power, rotating substantially vertical axes
helicopter
non power driven, heavier than air aircraft deriving its lift in flight chiefly from aerodynamic reaction
glider
