Deck 4 Flashcards
operationalisation
the process of turning your key constructs into indicators and variables
steps to operationalise
- constructs: you have important terms you need to understand
- indicators: the aspects of the constructs that reflect the relevant parts of the construct for your study
- variables: indicators with a measurement unit
- instruments: which tools are needed, procedures to calibrate, tools to measure
measurement scales of variables
nominal: different values, no order
ordinal: ordered values, no equal values in between
interval: ordered values with equal intervals, no natural 0
ratio: ordered values with equal intervals and a natural 0
theoretical research population
what you hope your research is going to say things about
operational research population
same as the theoretical research pop but then with specified/explained terms
research unit
look at different notes for this
theoretical population of observational units
measurable observation units
operational population of observation units
same as theoretical pop of ou’s but then further explained
observation unit
a single discrete unit in the set defined as the total population
