Instincts
Inherited (not learned) behavior of an organism
Learned Behavior
Behaviors that are gained through experience and learning
Inherited Traits
Characteristics that are passed down from parent to child and determined by genes
(ex. Eye color, hair color)
Acquired Traits
Characteristics that an organism develops during its lifetime that are not passed on to offspring (ex. Injury, disease)
Generations
People, plants or animals that are all born about the same time
Genetics
The study of how traits or characteristics are passed down from parent to offspring
Characteristics
Qualities or traits that make something or someone unique
Offspring
The immediate descendant (child) of an organism
(Biological) Parent
The mother or father of the offspring from whom genetic traits are passed
