DABDA – Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance
What predictable stages doe children progress through with respect to their understanding of death?
Prior to age 2 = lack of understanding
Ages 2 to 7 = death is a reversible, dream-like state
Between 7 and 11 = death is irreversible and become anxious about death of loved ones
When does fear of death peak in adulthood?
Middle-age
How do elderly respond to topic of death?
Talk about it more and seem less fearful of it than younger adults
How do Kubler-Ross’s stages affect terminally-ill people?
Terminally-ill people experience a wide variety of emotions; however, their feelings don’t necessarily occur in a fixed sequence; Also, hope, appears to be a common feeling among them (not identified by Kubler-Ross)
