A

a form of CBT where in the hindiviudal is taught to RECOGNISE when they are LOSING control and develop TECHNIQUES to resolve their conflict WITHOUT violence.

what happens during cognitive preparation?

A

offenders REFLECT on their past expereinces and IDENTIFY situations which act as an anger TRIGGER and if offender interprets it as IRRATIONAL.

Therapist attempts to REDEFINE offenders irrational interpretation of events.

what happens during skill acquisition?

A

offenders introduced to TECHNIQUES to help them DEAL with their anger provoking situations EFFECTIVELY, offenders should CONTROL their emotions rather than be RULED by them.

Techniques can be COG. e.g. positive self talk. BEHAV. e.g. communication training or PHSYIO. e.g. meditation.

what is application practise during anger CBT?

A

offenders ROLEPLAY their new skills in a MONITORED enviro. Offender must see the play as REAL and therapist BRACVE to PROVOKE A reaction from offender.

Successful negotiation of role play leads to POSITIVE reinforcement from the therapist.

AO1: Keen studied progress of young offenders who did an anger management course

A

8 lots of 2 hour session, first 7 oer 3 week period and the LAST session a month afterwards covering ALL anger management cbt.

ISSUES: offenders not taking the course SERIOUS or FORGETTING routines.

POSITIVES: outcome was generally positive as offenders reported an INCREASED awareness of their anger management and INCREASED capacity to have self CONTROL.
