temporary care provided by someone other than the primary care giver, can consist of other family members looking after the child, child minders ,nannies or a day nursery

-children socialise more so its easier for them to make friends
-have to learn to share toys and interact with each-other which helps them understand social rules
-daycare provides experiences that help enhance a childs cognitive development like number games

-can make children more aggressive
-can effect attachment styles with children who spend lots of time in daycare can become resistant
-child in care may become avoidant so they are not effected by absence of mother

-low adult to child ratio=ensures each children gets attention and stimulation
-small group sizes=easier for young children to interact and develop when there are less strangers
-mixed age group=children can observe modelled behaviour

-stable attachment figure=a key worker provides consistent, responsive care which is essential for emotional development
-structured day=routines help children feel safe and understand what to expect, promoting sense of security
-well trained staff=at least level 2 childcare qualification ensures staff have skills to support children’s development
