Day 3 Flashcards
What are the classes of antihypertension?
A- ACE inhibitors
B- Beta blockers
C- Calcium Channel blockers
D- Diuretics
How do ACE inhibitors work?
Stop the ACE transformation of angiotensin 1 turning into angiotensin 2
* Angiotensin 2 causes Increase in BP and HTN
What is an adverse effect of ACE Inhibitors?
Dry hacking cough
What should you do for patients that have hypertension?
BP log
What do all ACE inhibitors have in their name?
‘pril (Lisinopril)
What do calcium channel blockers do?
Calcium assists with contractions, so blocking that causes reduced contractions and vasodilation
What are calcium channel blockers used for besides HTN?
Cardiac arrythmias
Side effects of calcium channel blockers?
Flushing
What are contraindications for calcium channel blockers?
Basically all the really shitty CV stuff
- MI
- Heart blocks
- CHF
What drugs are calcium channel blockers?
- Diltiazem
* Anything with ‘dipine
What do beta blockers do?
Create parasympathetic response
What are beta blockers used for?
- Angina
- HTN
- Aortic Dissection
- Brain Aneurysm
Side effects of beta blockers?
Parasympathetic symptoms
Examples of beta blockers?
‘olol drugs
- Metoprolol
- Propanolol
What do diuretics do for hyperlipidemia?
Uses ions to remove fluids
What do loop diuretics do?
Edema for CHF
* increase excretion of sodium and chloride
What do osmotic diuretics do?
Good for ICP
* prevent reabsorption of water
What does Potassium sparing do?
Hypertension
* reduces reabsorption in the kidneys
What are loop diuretics used for?
- Edema from CHF
- Hypertension
- pulmonary edema
What is the drug for loop diuretics?
Furosemide
Drug for osmotic diuretics?
Mannitol
Drug for potassium sparing?
spironolactone
What types of drugs do we use for hyperlipidemia?
Statins (HMG-CoA)
What do statins do?
Inhibit cholesterol synthesis
