Wrong Direction Movements and TW5
What are the definitions and risks for a wrong directional movement?
-Opposite direction for a train to travel
-No signal protection
-Only on signaller’s authority
-Must be driven in the direction of travel
What could be the reason for making a ‘Wrong’ Direction movement?
-Overrunning a platform
-Taking a wrong route
-Line ahead is obstructed
-Proceeding past failed train to assist from front
-Front portion of a divided train going to the rear portion
-Train can’t be driven from the leading cab
What do we always make sure when talking to the signaller?
-Repeat back
-Clear understanding
What things would you be told if you had defective on train equipment whilst in service?
-Location where the train will be taken out of service
-Location of replacement train
-Location of technician
-Arrangements for the train to be ‘boxed’ in
-Any speed reduction
-Arrangements for competent person
-Details if the train can remain in service til the end of the day
If a train develops a fault whilst in service, what information will you need to tell the signaller?
-Train ID

-Unit number
-Coach number
-Door number (If applicable)
-What the defect is
-Whether a competent person is present

-60MPH
AWS/TPWS isolated and DSD/DVD;

-Proceed at a speed to ensure that any speed limit is encountered is not exceeded.
