Ex- She lived in the same village from the cradle to the grave.
Full of oneself
নিজের ব্যাপারে খুব উচ্চ ধারণা পোষণ করা
Ex- She never stops talking about herself and is full of herself.
Functus officio
দায়িত্বে নেই/ দায়িত্ব থেকে অব্যাহতি প্রাপ্ত
Ex- Once a court has passed a valid sentence after a lawful hearing, it is functus officio and cannot reopen the case.
Gain ground
জনপ্রিয় হওয়া বা গ্রহনযোগ্যতা পাওয়া/ অগ্রসর হওয়া; উন্নতি করা
Ex- The company has been gaining ground of its competitors [সংস্থাটি তার প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বীদের চেয়ে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে]
Get away with
(অপ্রত্যাশিত কিছু থেকে) পলায়ন করা
Ex- If he thinks he can get away with cheating me, he’s very much mistaken
Gift of the gab
বাকপটু হওয়া/ আত্মবিশ্বাসের সাথে কথা বলার ক্ষমতা
Ex- She’s git the gift of gab- she should work in sales and marketing
Give (or lend) a hand
সহযোগিতা করা
Ex- The policemen lent a hand in getting the stretcher up the steps
Give away something
গোপন কথা বলে দেওয়া/ অনিচ্ছাকৃতভাবে মনের ভাব ব্যক্ত করা
Ex- The look on her face gave her away [তার মুখভঙ্গিই সব বলে দিচ্ছে]
Give in/ up
পরাজয় মেনে নেওয়া/ বশ্যতা স্বীকার করা
Ex- He reluctantly gave in to pressure [সে চাপের মুখে নতি স্বীকার করলো]

১. ভেঙ্গে পড়া ২. প্রতিস্থাপিত হওয়া ৩. রাস্তা ছেড়ে দেওয়া
Ex- You have to give way to traffic coming from the right [তোমাকে ডান দিক থেকে আসা গাড়িগুলোকে রাস্তা ছেড়ে দিতে হবে]

কোনকিছু পেলে বা করতে পারলে খুশির তীব্রতা বুঝাতে/ যারপর নাই খুশি হওয়া
Ex- I would gave my right arm to meet the president [রাষ্ট্রপতির সাথে দেখা করতে পারলে যারপরনাই খুশি হতাম]

একমত হওয়া
Ex- The G7 will decide the matter, and the IMF is expected to go along with the decision
Go all out
সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করা
Ex- His company always went all out to make the customer happy.

পছন্দ অথবা অভ্যাস থেকে অংশ নেওয়া/ আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করা
Ex- Are you planning to go in for the 100 metres race?
Go over
বিবেচনা করা/ খতিয়ে দেখা/ পরীক্ষা করা
Ex- I want to go over these plans with you again [আমি তোমার সাথে এই পরিকল্পনা আবার খতিয়ে দেখতে চাই]
Go through
খোঁজা/ খতিয়ে দেখা
Ex- I’m going through my wardrobe [আমি আমার ওয়্যার ড্রোব ঘেটে দেখছি] and throwing out all the clothes I don’t wear any more.
Go to the dogs
গোল্লায় যাওয়া
Ex- The country is going to the dogs.
Go up in smoke/ end up in smoke
নিস্ফল হওয়া/ ব্যর্থতায় পর্যবসিত হওয়া
Ex- When the business went bankrupt, twenty years of hardwork went up in smoke.
Grasp/ Clutch/ Catch at a straw (s)
খড়কুটো আঁকড়ে ধরা
Ex- She offered to take a pay cut to keep her job, but she was just clutching at straws [সে তার চাকুরিটা বাঁচানোর জন্য তার বেতন কমানোর প্রস্তাব দিয়েছিল, কিন্তু এটা ছিল খড়কুটো আঁকড়ে থাকার চেষ্টা]

Ex- Given half a chance he can make anything work [সামান্য সুযোগ পেলে সে যেকোনো কিছু করতে পারে]

Ex- I’m too hard up to buy fancy clothes.

কোন কিছু/ কারোর উপর সুবিধা নেওয়া বা নিয়ন্ত্রণ প্রতিষ্ঠা করা
Ex- He usually has the upper hand because he’s older [সে বড় হওয়ার কারণে সবসময় সুবিধা পায়]

পরিস্থিতি সর্ম্পকে পূর্ণ ধারণা না রাখা/ আকাশ কুসুম কল্পনা
Ex- He’s always got his head in the clouds [সে সর্বদাই দিবা-স্বপ্নে বিভোর থাকে]

গভীরভাবে
Ex-:He is in head over ears debt [সে খুব ঋণগ্রস্ত]

Ex- Rahim fell head over heels in love with Zarin.

খুব কঠিন কাজ যা করতে অনেক শক্তি এবং প্রচেষ্টার প্রয়োজন হয়
Ex- To do this project within the deadline is a herculean task.
High spirits
খুব খুশি এবং আগ্রহী/ উচ্ছ্বসিত
Ex- All the children were in high spirits on the last day of school.

গ্রহণযোগ্য / প্রমাণ সাপেক্ষে টিকে থাকা/ ধোপে টিকে থাকা
Ex- This argument just doesn’t hold water.

জনসম্মুখে না আসা/ গোপন করা/ চোরাগুপ্তা
Ex- This is a hole-and-corner wedding [এটা একটি গোপন বিয়ে]
Hot potato
এমন কোনো বিষয় যার বিহিত করা দুরূহ বা অপ্রীতিকর
Ex- The abortion issue is a political hot potato in the United States
Hotchpotch
বিশৃঙ্খলা / জগাখিচুরি
Ex- The palace seems to be a complete hotchpotch of architectural styles.

সাধারণত কলঙ্কজনক কোন কিছু চাপা দেওয়ার জন্য প্রদত্ত অর্থ/ ঘুষ
Ex- He’s accused of paying her hush money to keep their affair Secret.
