David's Bridal Flashcards

Q

Tell me about yourself?

A

I started my career in graphic design after graduating college for visual communication.

And after some time, I was more drawn to digital design so I became a UI designer and had my first opportunity at an early stage startup called Yourder. where i met talal. Which was a restaurant table ordering system. where I worked alongside a UX designer for the first time, and just learned about this multidisciplinary field in design. And I was adamant that I’ll become a UX/UI/Product designer.

So I started my UX education with Interaction Design Foundation.
And got my first job as a UX/UI designer with another early stage startup called OYA.
OYA is a B2B as well as a B2C iOS mobile application that aims to bring women entrepreneurs and customers who want to support WOB together to support each other.

And a few months after covid broke out, I decided to further educate myself in UX design especially with user research and testing so I enrolled myself in a Bootcamp with CareerFoundry and worked as a freelancer while completing the certificate.

and when I completed my certificate, I started freelancing for about a year and a half now. I

Hopskipdrive, ammuni, LGC Biotech, friendsatwork

Q

Can you walk me through one of your projects?

A

of course! I’ll walk you through a project I have on my portfolio.

I worked on a project with Chegg.

Chegg outsourced a creative & advertising agency called Friendsatwork.
And the agency hired me as a freelance UX/UI designer.

They partnered up to do a full brand refresh. It included tweaking the logo, updating visual language, color palette, etc.

My role was to conduct a competitive analysis of their competitor’s dashboard in the research and discovery phase as well as update the UI of their landing page and dashboard based on the user research data and their new brand guideline.

I’ve worked with multiple team members but mainly with the creative director, creative strategist, and developer to come out with a clear concept for how we would move forward with the dashboard.

Q

Do you have experience in e-commerce?

A

I do have experience working in e-commerce as a graphic designer early on in my career.
but I don’t have experience as a product designer in this industry.

but I think my experience designing effective visual hierarchy, clean UI, user-friendly UX solutions, etc will be helpful for designing an e-commerce site or app.

Q

What is your design process?

A

I always have the 5 phases of design thinking in mind: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test.

So depending on the work that is given to me by usually a PM,
I would either update myself on the user research that’s already been done, or conduct
user research to help me understand who I’m designing for.

And then create user personas, list pain points and objectives, etc. from the user research data.

I’ll start ideating solutions with other team members and stakeholders.

And then I’ll start the UI process of prototyping the solution.
So I’ll create wireframes, storyboards, low-high fidelity prototypes, etc.

Then comes testing the prototype where the team and I will conduct usability testing.

And this whole process basically iterates so we can refine the problem statement and come up with better
Solutions.

Q

Do you have experience articulating, negotiating and refining designs with cross functional teams?

How do you work in cross-functional teams?

How do you work with developers/product managers/other designers?

A

As a designer, I’ve work with a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, and marketers.

I’ve had experience working in small teams that consisted of only a PM and developer or creative director and a PM, and bigger teams that involved multiple designers, leads, developers, and marketers.

and to have a great cross-functional team involves clear communication, a good plan, and strong focus, and great leadership.

and from my experience, working in a cross-functional team, we increase that mutual trust and learn a lot of respect towards each other because we’re working as a team during the entire project.

Q

How do you work with the development team?

A

I like to include the development early on in the UX process to assess technical feasibility.

I want to know if it can be built before I even start designing.

Once I hand off designs to development, I’ll work with them to make sure that design requirements are properly translated. I’ll also structure and document the designs for the developer in the Figma file. Stylistic, structural, and Interactions.

Once the development is finished I help test to make sure that it aligns with the original designs and works properly.

Q

What is your work style?

A

Its really important to collaborate with your team and to have clear communication so I think its important to have at last 1 to 2 meetings a week preferably on Mondays and Fridays or Mondays and Thursday.

As a designer, My work style involves a good amount of time for creative thinking which involves working independently. So I would want my leads/managers to trust me that I can do my job and meet my deadlines for the project

While a good portion of my work is traditionally performed independently, I always do reach out to relevant leads and management to keep them in the loop when I’m working on a project that pertains to them. so we can be on the same page.

Q

Oya

A

I worked with a team which consisted of a marketing manager, me (ux/ui designer) but mainly I worked on UI, a couple of interns, and working with such a small team it gave me the opportunity to work closely with the CEO and CFO. They were a husband and wife team.

When I was hired they set me up with a freelance ux researcher to create personas, competitive analysis, and surveys.
And with the results, my job was to create user flows, wireframes, mockups to revamp the UI.

After two years of feeling like the project really wasn’t going anywhere and feeling burnt out from a small startup environment, I decided to leave and educate myself further in UX by getting a certificate while continuing as a freelance designer.

Q

Yourder

A

I first started working in digital products/services back in 2016 at an early stage startup called Yourder. I was part of a small team focused on designing an MVP as well as testing it. It’s a mobile dining application that lets users order food at the table using their phones. I still keep in contact with some of the people I worked with there and we always talk about how it was ahead of its time.

Q

Are you more involved with UI or UX?

A

I would say I wouldn’t just be able to do UX research if I couldn’t design the UI aspect of it.

I’m extremely passionate about UI. The art of creating visually pleasing, highly intuitive user experiences.
