Data centers Flashcards
there are 3 tiers when it comes to Data Center:
Core Layer
Distribution / aggregation layer
Access / edge layer
____ _______switches are only for the servers in their individual racks.
Top Rack
the _____ ______ layer of a Data center inner-connects to all of the Data Centers Top Rack switches or:
Distribution / aggregation
The _____ ______ inner connects the Internet or outside of the LAN to all of the Distribution / aggregation layers.
Core Layer / or backbone
Traffic Flows use or have the North-South and East-West senarios:
Traffic coming in and out of the network, or out to the Internet and into the Data Center from the Internet is considered the North to South traffic flow.
Traffic traveling across/between servers within the Data Center are considered to be on the West to East traffic flow.
Data centers have a bunch of individual hard drives connected with Ethernet for keeping the data actually stored, preserved, in good working order. this is basically at file level. Are relatively cheap.
Network attached storage ( NAS )
A unique block level of storage that connects a bunch of individual systems to a central bank of mass storage/Harddrives that is managed by what is called a SAN controller that has it’s own individual connection.Provide redundancy, power and safety for your Data*. These are pretty expensive.
Storage area network ( SAN )
Their are basically 2 primary types of connections between the SAN controllers and SAN storage harddrives:
iSCSI
Fibre Channel - one version is called: Fibre Channel over Ethernet
(FCoE)
_______ is where SAN’s have backup conncections that are called:
Multipathing
________ in the Distribution / aggregation part of a Data center consist of one rack with multiple servers connected to one top-of-rack switch ( or two for redundancy )
Pods
To be able to connect your computer to a SAN you will need a:
Host bus adaptor ( HBA )
With this type of architecture, each top-of-rack switch is connected to the layer three switches on the spine layer
Spine-and-leaf layer
______virtualizes much of the networking plane/layers
Software Designed networking ( SDN )
Making your virtual network highly visible you need several things:
Load balancing -
Clustering - multi-servers that are identical to make sure data gets transferred
Active-Active - where all servers are available
In virtualization, when you have a server that’s being used until it goes down, then the second server kicks in so theres no delay:
Active-Passive
