What does the term data mean?
Data is recorded facts usually a series of values produced as a result of an event or transaction.
What are some examples of data?
- Loyalty card number
- Bar-code
- Postcodes
How can data be inputted onto a computer?
- Keyboard
- Speech recognition, using a mic
- Webcam
- Touch screen
- Mouse
- Sensors
- Bar-code reader
What is direct data capture?
Direct data capture is the collection of data for a particular purpose. E.g. Reading a bar-code to identify a product.
What is indirect data capture?
Indirect data capture is the collection of data as a by product from another purpose. E.g. using a bar-code to check stock levels.
What is encoding data?
Encoding data is putting data into an appropriate binary code.
What is binary code?
Binary code is a system used to represent different types of data. It is represented by either 0 or 1
