how to go from empirical formula to molecular formula
do molar mass/mass of empirical formula. get that value and multiply the empirical formula by it.
one of 2 ways the dat is going to ask you to calculate percent composition. Its going to give you the molecule formula and ask for specific elements percent. Now solve it
multiply or calculate each element and add it all up. Get the element they are looking for and divide it by the total.
one of 2 ways the dat is going to ask you to calculate percent composition. Mass percent given of each element in compound and asked to determine compounds formula
divide each value by the elements atomic mass
and choose the smallest out of those two (could be more) answers. Get the smallest answer and divide by them with each element. key THING TO REMEMBER. If number if close to whole number then you can move on. If its in decimal form, you must multiply by 2 or 3. If you multiply one with 2 you must also multiply the other by 2
how to go from empirical to molecular formula?
Ex. if your compounds actual molecular weight is 58.123 amu, WHAT IS the molecular formula. Dealing with C2H5. Get the weight or C2H5 which is 29. do 58.123 divided by 29 which is 2. Get 2 and multiply C2H5 by it. Which will be C4H10
