Operator report

A

An Operator must report any occasion when undeclared or misdeclared DG are discovered in cargo or mail - the report must be made to the appropriate National Authorities of the State of the Operator and of the State in which this occurred.
An Operator must also report any occasion when DG not permitted under ICAO-TI are discovered, either in the baggage or on the person, – the report must be made to the appropriate National Authority of the State in which this occurred.

OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS

A

It is the Operator’s responsibility to ensure that a package containing DG is not loaded onto an aircraft or into a unit load device, unless it has been inspected immediately for signs of damage or leakage prior to loading.

  1. DG FORBIDDEN for transport by air UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES:
A

Any article or substance which, is liable to explode, dangerously react, produce a flame or dangerous evolution of heat or dangerous emission of toxic, corrosive or flammable gases or vapors under conditions normally encountered in transport.
Any of the below listed items are strictly prohibited for transportation inside the cabin of an aircraft:
• Explosives, fireworks

  1. DG FORBIDDEN for transport by air UNLESS APPROVED BY THE STATE CONCERNED:
A

Any substance or article that is too dangerous for transport by air, or which may be transported only after its dangerous properties have been determined, but the State concerned gives approval or exemption on occasions - unless the provisions of the ICAO-TI indicate they may be transported under an approval granted by the State of Origin.

Any of the below group may be included in this category:
a) DG that are identified in the ICAO-TI as being forbidden for
transport in normal circumstances;
b) infected live animals.

Medical aids

A

approval of the Operator or forms part of the permanent equipment of the aircraft to provide medical aid for a patient

the gas cylinders have been manufactured specifically for this purpose;
b) the drugs and medicines and other medical matter are under the control of trained personnel;
c) the equipment containing wet cell batteries is kept, and when necessary secured, in an upright position to prevent spillage of the electrolyte;
d) proper provision is made to stow and secure all the equipment during take-off and landing and at all other times when deemed necessary by the commander in the interests of safety.

LAMPS CONTAINING DANGEROUS GOODS

A

a) lamps each containing not more than 1 g of DG and packaged so that there is not more than 30 g of DG per package, provided that:
1) the lamps are certified to a manufacturer’s quality management system; 2) each lamp is either individually packed in inner packaging, separated by
dividers, or cushioned.
b) lamps containing only gases of Division 2.2, provided they are packaged so that the projectile effects of any rupture of the bulb will be contained within the package.
