Dance Biology Flashcards
1
Q
What is a Joint?
A
- area where two bones meet
2
Q
what is a cartilage?
A
- a type of tissue that covers the surface of a bone at a joint. it helps reduce friction at the joint
3
Q
what is a synovial memebrane?
A
- a tissue the lines the joint and seals it into a joint capsule. it secretes synovial fluid (clear liquid) to lubricate the joint
4
Q
what is a ligament?
A
- tough elastic band of connective tissue it surrounds the joint to give support and limit the joints movement
- dammage (overstretching) to the ligament weakens the joint making it less stable and is very difficult to recover,
- joins bone to bone
5
Q
what is a tendon?
A
- a tough connective tissue on each side of a joint attach to muscles that control movement of the joint
- joins bone to muscle
- example: achilles which can be strengthened by flex and pointing of feet and can be stretched by
6
Q
what is a bursa?
A
- fluid-filled sacs between bones ligaments or other adjacent structures help cushion the friction in a joint
7
Q
what is a Synovial fluid?
A
- a clear, sticky fluid secreted by the synovial membrane
8
Q
what is a femur?
A
thigh bone
9
Q
what is a tibia
A
shin bone
10
Q
what is a patella
A
the knee cap
11
Q
what is the meniscus
A
a curved part of cartillage in the knees and other joints
12
Q
what type of joint is a hip joint?
A
- ball and socket joint/synovial joint (so is shoulder)
13
Q
draw a diagram of a hip joint and then check your answer
A
see bellow
14
Q
What type of joint is a knee joint?
A
- hinge joint nd synovial joint
