Damage Stability Flashcards
What are the damage assumptions for SIDE DAMAGE for Type A, B-60, B-100?
Where do these regs come from?
- Regs as per Load line Code
- VERTICAL EXTENT, from baseline up without limit.
- TRANSVERSE EXTENT, equal to B/5 or 11.5m whichever is lesser.
- DAMAGE OF LESSER EXTENT, if damage of lesser extent results in a more severe condition, lesser extent shall be assumed.
- LONGITUDINAL, confined to one compartment except for certain types of vessels where two compartments can be flooded.
Flooding Assumptions for Type A vessels
- > 100m to 150m, 1 comp’, not mach’ space.
- > 150m to 225m, 2 adjacent F & A comp’ or 1 mach’ space.
- > 225m 2 adjacent F & A comp’ 1 of which one can be a mach’ space.
Flooding Assumptions for B-100
- > 100m to 150m, any 2 adjacent F & A comp’, no mach’ space
- > 150m, 2 adjacent F & A comp’ 1 of which may be mach’ space.
Flooding Assumptions for B-60
- > 100m to 150m 1 comp’.
- > 150m 1 comp’ or 1 mach’ space.
What is the assumed permeability for a compartment and for a machinery space?
- Compartment = 95% or 0.95.
- Machinery Space = 85% or 0.85.
What is the condition of equilibrium?
the condition of the vessel after flooding.
What are the conditions of equilibrium as per the LLR?
What vessels do these apply to?
- Type A, B-100, B-60
- Final waterline must be below any opening through which progressive flooding could take place.
- Angle of heel due to unsymmetrical flooding must not exceed 15° (or 17° of no deck edge immersion).
- GM in flooded condition not < 0.1m.
- Sufficient stab in intermediate stages of flooding.
- Range of +ve stability after θE not < 20°.
- D.S not < 0.0175 mr.
What are the additional conditions of equilibrium for a Type-A vessel as per MARPOL?
- Angle of heel due to unsymmetrical flooding shall not exceed 25° (or 30° of no deck edge immersion).
- All other criteria match LLR
What is the the IBC Code?
International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk
Bottom damage Assumptions for MARPOL
For 0.3 L form the FP
- LONGITUDINAL EXTENT, 1/3L ^2/3 or 14.5m whichever is less.
- TRANSVERSE EXTENT, B/6 or 10m whichever is less.
- VERTICAL EXTENT, B/15 or 6m whichever is less.
What damage Stability information shall be exhibited on the Bridge?
- Boundaries all watertight compartments and their openings.
- Means of remote closure.
- Arrangements for correction of list due to flooding.
- Operating instructions for cross flooding valves.
- Any other useful information for maintaining stability after damage.
