A
- Revolt against logic and reason
- Wanted to destroy all traditions in art

- Hans Arp cut up rectangles and drop the from a height to arrange them by chance - Rectangles arranged according to the laws of chance

- Called all his works Merz, from KomMERZbank
- Whole point was that everything can create art
- Kurt Schwitters still used some formal art elements like colour and shape
