Guidelines to working ethically with animals

Causing pain and fear- should only be done if essential to experiment- and should only use lowest level of pain and fear possible
Social isolation- social animals isolated should be kept to a minimum, or only separated during experiment
Number of animals- researchers use as few animals as they can, but not only one so that it isn’t one-off
Choice of species- researchers should choose species that will be least distressed
