Nose, liver, gallbladder, bone, intestines, lungs, heart, spleen, stomach, pancrease, reproductive
all of them
what are the common sugns and symptoms of CF
salty skin
chronic resp problems
lung infections
poor weight/weight loss
meconium ileus
bulk/gresy stool
how is CF diagnosed
screen the baby - 48 hr via blood test
if this is positive then do the the
sweat test
what is the sweat test looking at
how much chloride there is in your sweat
what is the routine needed to manage CF
Nebulizer, quarterly testing, pulmonary function test, breathing tech, vest, chest percussion, exercise, diet
nutrition and CF
Those with CF have poor absorption of nutrition and have increased cal burning
120-200% cal needs
diet of those who have CF
high caloric, high protein, high salt
CF supplements
pancreatic enzymes (food break down), vit supplements A, D, E, K
G tubes and develpopment milestone
have to make sure this does not get in the way of them
CF and DM
Adulthood 1 and 3
Therefore those who have CF are constantly monitored – screening starts at age 10
reproduction
male and female have reduced fertility
males- block vas deferans
FEV1 levels CF
when we are born they are somewhat normal and then they quick drop
CF and exercise time
o Children – 60 mins per day
o Adults – 20-30 min a day
use the talk test to gage the intensity
