CVS conditions - valvular Flashcards

1
Q

Q

What is the pathology of mitral stenosis?

A

Orifice <2cm2
LA needs really high pressure to be able to pump blood into the LV to maintain CO
Leads to pulmonary hypertension

A

ECHO
ECG - RV hypertrophy

17
Q

How is mitral stenosis treated?

A

Diuretic
AF - anticoagulant
If that doesn’t work - balloon valvuloplasty (if valve isn’t calcified)
Mitral valve replacement

Q

What type of murmur is heard in mitral stenosis?

A

Loud S1, opening snap, rumbling mid/diastolic murmur

Best heard with the patient lying on their left side on exertion

19
Q

What is the pathology of mitral regurgitation?

A

Backflow of blood during systole

Pulmonary oedema
22
Q

What investigations would be done if mitral regurgitation was suspected?

A
