CV Assessment Flashcards
Whats the formula for blood pressure?
SV X SVR
How do you calculate the MAP?
SBP + 2(DBP) / 3
Whats normal MAP
70-100 mmHg
Whats normal CVP (also called RAP)?
2-5 mmHg
3-8 cmH2O
Normal Cardiac Output
4-6 L/min resting
How do you calculate cardiac output?
HR x SV = CO
What is the cardiac index?
CO adjusted for body size
Calculate the Cardiac Index
CO/BSA = CI
What is normal CI?
2.2-4.0 L/min/m2
What is stroke volume?
Amount of blood ejected by the VENTRICLE with EACH heart beat
Calculate SV
(CO/HR) x 1000 = SV
The resistance against which the left ventricle must pump to eject its volume
Systemic Vascular Resistance (SVR)
Calculate SVR
(Map - CVP) / CO x 80
Whats normal SVR?
800-1400
Where is the phlebostatic axis
4th intercostal space and mid-way of the AP diameter of the chest
Bed position for hemodynamic monitoring
0-60 degrees
What test do you do prior to hemodynamic monitoring placement?
Allen’s test
If the systolic BP declines > 10 mmHg during inspiration, (during normal spontaneous respiration)
pulsus paradoxus
Arterial pulse waveform showing alternating strong and weak beats.
pulsus alterans
Locations for a central line
Internal jugular
Subclavian
Femoral
Peripheral
What to do for air embolus:
- trendelenburg position
- left side
- 100% O2
- Notify Dr
PAS normal:
20-30 mmHg
PAD normal:
5-10 mmHg
PAWP normal:
4-12 mmHg
