This medication is administered to maintain the patency of the ductus arteriosus. What is the mechanism of action? What are the adverse effects?

Prostaglandin
MOA: the relaxation of arterial smooth muscle, which produces vasodilation, thereby promoting patency of the ductus arteriosus
AE: most pertinent side effect of PGE-1 is dose-dependent respiratory depression (≤12%). However, fever, hypotension, bradycardia hypoglycemia, decreased platelet aggregation, and seizures
