cut. inn of face Flashcards
what is the main nerve that provides proprioception for the face (mouth, nose, dura mater)
CNV- trigeminal n
What do the 3 divisions of the CNV supply for proprioception
V1 (opthalmic)- sup part of face to midline of orbit
V2 (maxillary)- middle part of face, cheek region, inf half of orbit as low as upper lip
V3(madibular)- Mandible, lower cheek
where does the motor root of CNV arrive from and where does it run to
motor nucleus located in the brain stem, exit on same side and run w madibular div of trigemincal nerve
supplies mastication muscles (and tensor tympani + palantini)
cut nerves of opthalmic div (5)
supraorbital supratochlear infratrochlear ex nasal lacrimal
Cut nerves of maxillary div (3)
z temporal
z facial
infraorbital
cut nerves of mandibilar (3)
articulotemporal
buccal
mental
what does the opthalmic div exit out of
sup orbital fissure
what does the maxillary div exit out of
foramen rotundum
what does mandubular div exit out of
foramen ovale (along w motor root)
what part of the ear in inn by cranial n and spinal n
ant half (crainial- auriculotemporal) back half (spinal- great auricular)
what would a lesion to the trigeminal n result in
loss of all types of sensation from the face + anterosup scalp on side of lesion
what is trigemincal neuralgia and what is it caused by
pain in div of CNV due to inflamation, injury to head, viral infection (herpes zoster Opthalmicus)
how do u clinically test CNV
all sensory divs (V1,2,3) are presented w pain, temp, sharp and fine touch close to midline
Brachiamotor component is tested by palpating mastication m
what is the corneal reflex, how to test and what does it test
tested by observing whether the pt. blinks in response to light touch w a wisp of cooton on cornea
Tests integrity of V1 in unconsious pt.
