Q

Do jails need to have a doctor?

A

No. the institutions need to have someone designated to oversee health issues, but this could be an RN or someone not in health care.

There is often an advisory committee that includes individuals that address administrative, medical and psychiatric needs. There should be a physician who is, at minimum, in consultation with the advisory committee.
