What are symptoms of Cushing’s disease
hallmark:
- weight gain
- purple striae, pink or purple stretch marks
- ruddy complexion
other:
- Fatigue, depression, emotional lability, mental changes
- Excessive hair growth
- Bruising
- Proximal muscle weakness

What is and what causes cushing’s disease?
elevated cortisol levels due to
- Endogenous over production of cortisol
- Exogneous use of corticosteroids
How is Cushing’s disease diagnosed?
Laboratory analysis of cortisol levels in urine, saliva, or blood

- benign tumor in pituitary gland- increase in the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone ACTH causes increased cortisol production
- benign tumor in adrenal gland - increase level cortisol
other: malignancy, genetics

High doses of glucocorticoids for inflammatory conditions
