Current Potential Diffference Graphs Flashcards
What is a current potential difference graph?
It shows how the current through a component varies with potential difference across it
Linear through the origin
Current is directly proportional to potential difference
Current through a resistor is directly proportional to the potential difference across the resistor at a constant temperature
Explain the graph of resistors against potential difference?
A graph of current against potential difference shows how current flowing through a component varies with the potential difference across it
It is directly proportional
Explain the filament lamp graph?
Common type of light bulb
Thin coil of wire called filament
It heats up when electric current passes through it and produces light as a result
Explain the diode graph?
Diodes are electric components used to regulate the potential difference in circuits
The diode has high resistance in one direction only
Current can only flow in the other direction
Explain the thermistor graph?
Used as temperature sensors eg fire alarms
Resistance decreases as temperature increases
Explain the LDR graph?
Light dependant resistor
Used to detect light levels eg automatic security lights
Resistance decreases as light intensity increases
