Tetrathionate broth- inhibits coliforms, allows typhoid bacilli

What is selective media
If any inhibiting substance is added to solid medium it enables greater number of required bacteria to form colonies than other bacteria

What is indicator medium
These media contains an indicator which changes colour when a bacterium grows in them

What happens?
S typhi converts sulphite to sulphide in presence of glucose and it has black metallic sheen - Potassium tellurite in MacLeod medium is reduced to metallic tellurium by diphtheria bacillus
