How did the worldview of Western civilizations change after the Middle Ages?
Middle Ages
Period of European history from 1100 to 1453.
Renaissance
A period of time after the middle ages marked by the revival of classical learning.
Humanism: Revived interest in Greek and Roman thoughts and beliefs.
Individualism: Individual humans can accomplish great things.
Secularism: Interest in human cultural achievements and the possibilities of the world.
Scientific Revolution
Resurrection of modern scientific thoughts.
Galileo: Believed in the heliocentric theory and was condemned by the Catholic Church for it.
Industrial Revolution
Increase in production brought about by the use of machines and characterized by the use of new energy sources. New inventions include updated to the train and steamship, the telegraph, and the sewing machine.
The Enlightenment
Rationalism: Reason is the fixer of all things.
Evidence: Used scientific evidence instead of religious beliefs to understand the world.
Trial by Jury: People voting if someone was guilty instead of the Pope deciding everything.
