A

1) Finding unfamiliar place = helps by comparing location of unfamiliar place with that of familiar (go one mile past your house and you reach)
2) understanding importance of place = many places important bc they are accessible to other places (Strait of Gibraltar)

2) can include both natural + cultural landscape
