Cubital tunnel syndrome Flashcards
1
Q
definition
A
compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow behind the medial epicondyle
2
Q
presentation of cubital tunnel syndrome
A
- paraesthesia on ulnar half of ring finger and little finger
- weakness of the muscles innervated by the ulnar nerve
3
Q
test for cubital tunnel syndrome
A
froments test which assesses the adductor policis muscle
4
Q
why does it happen
A
can occur due to a tight band of fascia forming on the roof of the tunnel (osbornes fascia) or due to tightness at the inter-muscular septum as the nerve passes through the two heads at the origin of the flexor carpi ulnaris
5
Q
diagnosis
A
nerve conduction study
6
Q
management
A
surgical release of any tight structures
7
Q
muscles innervated by the ulnar nerve
A
- all the interossei muscles
- hypothenar eminence
- medial 2 lumbricals
- adductor pollicis
