CT Proper :) Flashcards
What are the three types of loose CT proper?
Areolar, reticular, and adipose
What are the four types of connective tissue?
CT proper, cartilage, bone, and blood
What are the the three types of dense CT proper?
Regular, irregular, and elastic
What is loose CT proper?
The LCTP contains small fibers arranged in loose, seemingly random arrangements
Supports epithelium and many internal organs
It’s presence in certain organs allows them to expand
Forms a protective covering enclosing many internal organs
What is dense CT proper?
Contains many collagen fibers that are packed together
Fibers are large and occupy most of the extracellular spaces between cells
This type of tissue has more specific functions than loose connective tissue
What is areolar connective tissue?
Most highly distributed connective tissue
Serves as universal packing material between other tissues
What is reticular connective tissue?
Forms the meshwork within lymphatic organs.
What is adipose tissue?
Fibroblast enlarge to store fat
Fat is used for energy, insulation, and organ protection
Brown fat (produces heat) and white fat (stores energy)
What is dense regular fibrous connective tissue?
Found in tendons and ligaments .
What is dense irregular fibrous connective tissue?
Found in capsules that surround joints and organs.
What is dense regular elastic?
Found in large arteries of the body
What is a tendon?
Fibrous connective tissue that connects muscle to bone.
What is a ligament?
Fibrous connective tissue that connects bone to bone.
