Connective Tissue :) Flashcards
What is connective tissue?
Connective tissue supports and bonds body parts.
- All epithelial cells rest on connected tissue.
-
Connective tissue is found ( ) in the body.
Everywhere
Connective tissue is what ( ) organs together.
Binds
Connective tissue supports and ( ).
Protects e.i bones and cartilage
Connective tissue produces ( ) which helps with the transportation of substances.
Blood cells
What is the ECM and what is it composed of?
Collagen ( for flexibility and strength), elastic (stretch and recoil), reticular (forming delicate supporting networks for small blood vessels and soft tissue organs).
The ECM can be solid, semi-solid, or liquid.
What does “blast” mean?
Cell that builds
All epithelial cells rest on ( ) tissue?
Connective
What does “clast” mean?
Cell that breaks down
What does “cyte” mean?
Mature cell
What does “chondro” mean?
Cartilage
What does “fibro” mean?
CT proper e.i. Fibroblast, cell that produces CT proper
What does “hemo(at)o-“ mean?
Blood
What does “osteo-“ mean?
Bone e.i. Osteoclast, cell that breaks down bone
What does collagen do in the ECM?!
A fibre that gives flexibility and strength to the ECM.
What does elastic do in the ECM?
Elastic gives stretch and recoil in the EMC.
What does reticular do in the ECM?
The reticular is what forms delicate supporting networks for small blood vessels and soft tissue organs
What are the types of connective tissue?
The four types are CT proper, cartilage, bone, blood
