Rheumatoid arthritis
A
- chronic disease that causes inflammation of joints
- Autoimmune disorder causing joint pain, stiffness, decreased motility and fatigue
- Usually affects hands, feet, knees, and shoulder

Lupus
A
- autoimmune disorder causing tissue damage
- Often affects heart, lungs, kidneys, brain
- Sx come and go with flare-ups and periods of remission
- No cure

Marfan syndrome
A
- systemic inherited disorder affecting CT
- Pts tend to be tall and thin with long arms and legs
- Shows with extremely flexible joints and curved spines
- Complications may occur when cardiovascular tissue is affected leading to heart murmurs or aortic aneurysms

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP):
A
- rare condition turning muscle and CT to bone
- Autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutation in ACVR1 gene
- Children usually have malformed big toes
- Debilitating and leaves patients immobile
