CT Classification Flashcards
1
Q
What are 2 Embryonic CT?
A
- Mesenchymal CT
- Mucous CT
2
Q
What is Mesenchymal CT?
A
- No fibers
- Scattered reticular fibers
- Form during 2nd and 3rd weeks of development
* From Mesoderm and Neural crest cells - Found
* Embryo and tooth pulp of adult - Few mitochondria and Little to no ER

3
Q
What is Mucous CT?
A
- Jelly-like
- Rich in Hyaluronic Acid
- Found
- Umbilical cord
- WHARTON’S JELLY
- Subdermal CT of embryo
*Embyronic CT

4
Q
What is Loose (Areolar) CT?
A
- Ground substance higher levels then collagen
- Predominant cells
- Fibroblasts
- Macrophages
- Vascularized

5
Q
What is Dense Irregular CT?
A
- Collagen Type 1 fibers
- Predominant cells
* Fibroblasts - Provide resistance to stress from all directions
- Location
- Deep dermis layer
- Capsule of organs
- Submucosa of digestive tract
- Periosteum and Perichondrium

6
Q
What is Dense Regular Collagenous CT?
A
- Fibrocollagenous or Fibrous Tissue
- Consist
* Type 1 Collagen Fibers - Function
- Flexibility combined with great tensile strength
- Poor vascularization
- Appear WHITE
- Location
- Tendons
- Ligaments
- Aponeurosis
- Cornea

7
Q
What is Dense Regular Elastic CT?
A
- Elastic fibers
* Yellow color - Function
- Resist high degree of stretch
- Allows recoil of tissue
- Location
- Large arteries (Aorta)
- Ligamenta flava
- Ligamentum Nuchae
- Suspensory Ligament of Penis

8
Q
What is Reticular CT?
A
- Type III Collagen
- Reticular cells
- Form Framework of
- Lymphoid organs
- Hemopoietic organs
- Liver Sinusoids
- Pancreas
- Adrenal Glands
*Does not stain with H and E

9
Q
What is Adipose Tissue?
A
- Grossly visible
- Little ECM
- Highly Vascularized
- Body Fat
- Men: 15-20%
- Women: 20-25%
- Store Energy as GLYCOGEN
- Two Types
- Unilocular adipocyte (WHITE fat)
- Multilocular adipocyte (BROWN fat)

10
Q
What is Uniocular Adipocytes?
A
- 50 to 150 µm in diameter
- Cytoplasm
* Displaced periphery forming thin ring - White adipocytes stored as Triglycerides
- Nucleus
* Signet Ring Appearance - Increase in SIZE during the first 6 months of life
- Increase in NUMBER until 2nd year of life
- Puberty
* Increase in size and number of unilocular adipocytes - Don’t undergo Mitotic division
- Function
- Store energy
- Thermal insulation
- Shock absorber

11
Q
What is Multiocular Adipocyte?
A
- Brown Fat cells
- Numberous Small Lipid Droplets
- Cytoplasm
- Vacularized
- Numerous mitochondria
- Function
* Production of body heat (ONLY) by mitochondria - Found
- Neonates and Infants
- Between Scapulae
- Adults: Around adrenal glands
