A
diagnose- meningitis, encephalitis, MS, inflam, malignancy, SAH; measure opening pressure in IIH; treat incr ICP; administer chemo or antibiotics

A
increased ICP in mass lesion or obstructive hydrocephalus; local infection at LP site

A
traumatic tap, post LP headache, dry tap

A
mass lesion, brain swelling, IIH, cerebral venous thrombosis, hydrocephalus

what is the viscosity if containing pus or high protein
A
highly viscous

what is the normal opening pressure and when is it important to measure
A
8-18cm. measure especially in headache patients. measure with patient in left lateral position
