Have you ever seen a crime committed in the street? What did you do? Yes I have seen a crime committed in the street. Some years ago, when I lived in Algeciras, I saw a man breaking into a car near my house. I immediately called the police but they arrived too late. If the car had been mine I would have done something else.

What might be done to improve public safety? I think that something has to be done to improve public safety and probably the best that we can do to achieve this purpose is to improve our education system. If we had a better education our country would be safer. On the other hand our country is safer than our neighbouring countries.

Do you think the attack could have been avoided? Yes I think so, but the best we could do is a long-term policy to help the third world countries to get to the Welfare State. If we had done that the attack would not have happened.
Are wars on terrorism wrong or could they be justified?
Are wars on terrorism wrong or could they be justified? All wars are always wrong and they can never be justified. How can we justify the kill of hundreds of thousand of innocents children that the USA army kills in Afganistan? I agree that something has to be done about terrorism but not war against them.

Do you think there must have been a reason why they committed such a terrible crime? No, I don’t think so. No crime has any justification. I know life in this part of the word must have been terrible and nowadays too but that might not be the reason for terrorism.
Do you wish you hadn’t seen those images on TV?
Do you wish you hadn’t seen those images on TV? I wish I hadn’t seen them but actually I saw them on TV, just in the moment when the second plane hit with the second tower and a few minutes later the first tower fell down. I felt very frightened because I thought that I was watching the beginning of the fourth world war. It has been one of the worst moments in my life.

What should be done to prevent so many crimes? It is known that something should be done to prevent so many crimes. Something has to be done by the police, by politicians and by citizens. In my opinion the best thing that should be done is to improve our education, we must to do lots of educational programs with the purpose to show people another way to earn their living.

Do you think that if the law were more strict people would stop driving so fast? Yes, I think so. We have a proof in our country, five years ago our driving code was changed, basically the change was harder fines for driving fast and nowadays the number of people who die on highways is lower than five years ago. What would have happened if we had changed it before? Obviously it would have saved a lot of lives.
Do most criminals go on committing crimes when they leave prison?
Do most criminals go on committing crimes when they leave prison? I don’t think so, the main goal to imprison a person is to re-educate him/her for not committing more crimes. If the prison works well the person will not commit more crimes. On the other hand it is said that some people who have just been released from jail, are going to commit crimes, for this reason the politicians should do something to solve this problems. But I think that the number of prisons that work well is much greater than the malfunctioning ones.

Do you agree with capital punishment for certain crimes such as murder? No, I don’t agree. The death penalty is an inhuman punishment and what is more, what will happen if we punish with death penalty an innocent person? We know that this has happened in some countries. I can’t imagine something more unfair than killing an innocent.

Do you have a burglar alarm in your house? And at work? In my house I don’t have a burglar alarm but I have the best thing to keep my home safe, a dog called Newton. At work we have a burglar alarm because there are lots of valuable things but, on the other hand, we have never had problems with burglars.
Are you for or against having guns?
Are you for or against having guns? I am against having guns and the reason why I think so is because we can read everyday in newspaper lots of murders that have been brought about having guns. On the other hand If you practice hunting or other sport which need guns you will have guns at home.
Do you often walk in areas which are not very safe?
Do you often walk in areas which are not very safe? No, I normally walk in safe areas, but If I had to walk through unsafe areas I would do it carefully because most of the crimes are committed in these areas. Luckily in my village all the areas are very safe.
Can people in your country carry guns?
Can people in your country carry guns? No, in my country it is forbidden to carry guns. On the other hand, if you practice some activities like hunting you can buy guns but only for hunting, you can’t carry guns on the street.
Talking about cybercrime, what steps should you do to protect yourself?
Talking about cybercrime, what steps should you do to protect yourself? The more important thing we can do is to change regularly the key, this one should be long and must contain letters, numbers and symbols but, it is known that people choose simple passwords, such as birthdays, relatives’ names, etc. If we did this we would not have so many problems with cybercrime.
