Creativity Flashcards
What is Creativity?
The generation of novel and useful ideas.
What is Innovation?
The process from idea generation (ie creativity) to implementation
What is Innovation diffusion?
Successfu implementation of innovative products or processes that have been developed by others.
What is the Componenet model of creativity?
Expertise + Intrinsic Motivation + Creative skills
Creative skills is poorly defined
These characteristics predict general performance, not just creativity!
What is the Dual-Pathway to Creativity Model?
Cognitive Flexibility + Persistence
Broad and inclusive cognitive categories with systematic effortful and in-depth exploration of a few cognitive categories.
What Model says that broad + in-depth cognitive exploration leads to cretaivity?
Dual-Pathway to creativity Model says that cognitive flexibility and persistence lead to creativity.
What is cognitive flexibility?
The use of broad and inclusive cognitive categories through flexible switching among categories and through the use of remote associations between diferent cognitive categories.
What describes the use of remote associations between different cognitive categories? To which theory does it belong?
Cognitive flexibility. It is part of the dual-pathway to creativity model. Cognitive persistence is the other pathway to creativity in the model.
What model says that there is a template for creativity?
The Templates of Creativity Model. It only describes design creativity using the removal, replacement, redefinition and relationship templates.
What model lists a finite number of ways to be creative about design? e.g. Removal, Replacement, Redefinition, Relationship.
The Templates of Creativity Model. It doesn’t describe creativity outside of design.
What is the Adopter’s Dilemma?
If I don’t adopt, I may lose competitive advantage.
If I do adopt: Ambiguity (is this innovation?, can I implement it?), Cost, Inertia of Success.
What are Ambiguity, Cost and Inertia of Success?
They are reasons not to adopt innovation in the Adopter’s Dilemma.
I am a company whose competitor has just released a new, innovative product. What dilemma am I going through?
The Adopter’s Dilemma. There is Ambiguity, Cost and Inertia of Success on one side, and the chance of losign competitive advantage on the other.
What is the Patent issue?
Patents protect creative ideas, but not innovation. Innovation must be proteced against copycats, and creativity cannot be stolen!
What Model says that Expertise, Intrinsic Motivation and Creative Skills are needed for Creativity?
The Component Model of Creativity.
