Creation Flashcards
What happens on each day?
1- light & dark// orders chaos 2- atmosphere 3- vegetation 4- day & night 5- birds & aquatic life 6- humans 7- takes a break (lazy)
Role of the father in Genesis
Brings order to chaos- “Let there be light”
Created the universe through his word
All he creates is “good”
Creates humans last, in his image
Role of the spirit in Genesis 1 & 2
“Hovering over the waters”
The breath that was breathed into Adam to give him life is translated as the spirit
Role of “the word” (the Son) in John 1//Creation
Present before the world is created
Through it, life is given to everything.
It is flesh when incarnated as Jesus.
Purpose of humans
Told to “be fruitful”
Authority over the earth
Adam and Eve take care of the garden of Eden- perfect relationship with god
Why did the Fall happen?
Eve was coerced by a serpent (Sanjana) to eat the only fruit they weren’t allowed to eat and give some to Adam.
Known as original sin- disobeyed God’s only rule
What did the Fall result in?
Destroys the perfect relationship.
Everyone is affected by this sin.
We are in need of salvation to bring back the relationship
What do all Christians agree about creation?
God created the universe
God acted out of love and goodness- caring for his creation despite how bad it is
Humans are made in God’s image, but lack perfection
Literal interpretation of Genesis//Creationists
Some people take creation literally- it took 6 days, reject science argue that the world is 5700 years old
God’s word is infallible
Creation as a myth
Both genesis 1 and 2 are different, despite saying the same thing
Science proves that the universe is billions of years old.
Don’t need to be taken literally, but tell some truths about human uniqueness.
Theistic evolution- life developed through evolution, but evolution is started by God.
Each “day” represents a period of thousands/ millions of years
