2 differing approaches to setting foundations for shapes
[2. Setting Foundation]
- Classical Shape Alignment
- Modern Shape Alignment
What is Classical Shape Alignment and Modern Shape Alignment? Which is best?
[2. Setting Foundation]
Classical Shape Alignment - work to fit bodies into strict pre-set classical alignments. Fit body to the pose.
2. Modern Shape Alignment - allow shape of pose to be adjusted to be more accessible. Modify shape to fit body.
Try to find a balance.
What is root rebound?
When we apply downward force, there is a direct upward reaction. We do this to create length in our bodies.
What is an action?
[4. Actions and Cueing]
An action is an internal movement or effort within the body to find lightness and lift.
Interval activations through muscular trains
The most effective way to communicate action is…
[4. Actions and Cueing]
…to not ask for a muscle to fire but internally directed movement from muscles, bones, skun,
4 action elements to keep in mind when bringing a student into a shape/cueing
[4. Actions and Cueing]
- Simple actions and counter actions
- Positions v actions
- Complementary actions
- Directional actions
Describe simple actions and counter actions
[4. Actions and Cueing]
Both actions are necessary in order to keep pose aligned.
Describe positions vs actions
[4. Actions and Cueing]
The body is in a particular position. When we introduce actions, we direct the muscles to encourage the bones to move from one position to another.
Describe complementary actions
[4. Actions and Cueing]
Pair of actions performed simultaneously to move body in one direction.
Describe directional actions
[4. Actions and Cueing]
e.g. weight transferring, lifting through fingers, micro directions
what are the 3 component parts of poses
[5. Pose and component parts]
- Prepatory pose - appears throughout practice as you train mind and body for more complex shapes.
- Counterpose - for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction.
- Transitional pose - unwind the body gradually. enable a gradual shift from one range of motion to another
