Used to achieve movement and rhythm in an embroidery work by direction in which the are applied
Linear stitches
Is the simplest and frequently used stitch that is done to give definition and outline shapes
Running stitch
A flexible stitch that can follow curved or straight lines
Outline stitch
Used for filling spaces or to form flowers and leaves
Straight stitch
Is a looped stitch that can be also used in doing curved or straight lines
Chain stitch
Is also known as ladder stitch and it is worked on parallel lines
Open chain
Used to fill large or small areas
Filling stitches
Is a stitch used to fill an area in the embroidery design
Satin stitch
Is a stitch in alternate rows that is like a brick work and can be used as shading stitch
Brick stitch
Stitches that can be used to blend areas or thread together with the main stitch design
Pattern stitch
Is a stitch that forms a “Y” shape by having an open loop held down by vertical stitch
Fly stitch
Used to fill in areas of pattern and to form flower petals
Detached stitch/ laisy daisy
Are worked on the needle down into the hole to form a center hole
Eyelets
Stitches are used to show Textures in embroidery by building up layers or by being overlapped using variety of threads
Textural stitches
Can be used as dots or as needle out where the knot is wanted
