Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Only nerve to be affected by MS
Loss of light reflex when combined with CN 3
CN 2 - OPTIC
Innervates most eye muscles
ADDUCTION - most important by medial rectus
Constricts pupil
lesion can result in diplopia or loss of parallel gaze
EXTERNAL STRABISMUS – note: CN 6 was INTERNAL STRABISMUS!!
PTOSIS - CN 6 is pseduoptosis
CN 3 - OCULOMOTOR
Innervates superior oblique
—Depresses and ABDUCTS
hea will tilt AWAY from lesion
CN 4 - TROCHLEAR
General sensation to most of face
Motor to MOM and MATT
**Ant belly of digastric.. but not post belly
CN 5 - TRIGEMINAL
V1 - opth
V2 - Max
V3 - Mand
Motor to Lateral Recturs
ABDUCTION
Lesion = loss of parallel gaze - diplopia
INTERNAL STRABISMUS – note: CN 3 was EXTERNAL STRABISMUS!!
PSEUDOPTOSIS – CN 3 was real ptosis
CN 6 - ABDUCENS
MOFE
POST BELLY DIGASTRIC!!
Salivation - submand and subling glands
ANTERIOR 2/3 TASTE
Lesipon = can’t wrinkle forehead, corner of mouth droops, can’t close eyes, loss of blink reflex
CN 7 - FACIAL
Hearing and linear and ngular acceleration
CN 8 - Vestibulocochlear
Salivation - PAROTID
Taste to POST 1/3
Sensory to pharynx and carotid sinus
MOTOR to STYLOPHARYNGEUS
if CN 10 is lost too –> loss of gag reflex
CN 9 - GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL
Swallowing Laryn - voice Sensory to GI Lesion = loss of cough reflex lesion with CN 9 = loss of gag refle
CN 10 - VAGUS
SCM and traps
head rotation via SCM
Lesion = shulder drop
CN 11 - ACCESORY
TONGUE MOVEMENT and intrinsic tongue muscles
tongue will point to SAME DIRECTION as side of lesion upon protrusion
CN 12 - HYPOGLOSSAL
