Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Where does the Oculomotor nerve (III) leave the brainstem?
The midbrain, interpeduncular fossa (ventral)
Where does the trochlear nerve (IV) leave the brainstem?
Midbrain, interpeduncular fossa (DORSAL)
Where does the Abducens nerve (VI) leave the brainstem?
Pons, lower border of pons - pontocerebellar junction.
Where does the oculomotor nerve (III) pierce the dura mater?
At the superior orbital fissure
Where does the abducens nerve (VI) pierce the dura mater?
Durellos canal
Where does the oculomotor nerve (III) leave the skull?
Superior orbital fissure
Where does the trochelar nerve (IV) leave the skull?
Superior orbital fissure
Where does the abducens nerve (VI) leave the skull?
Superior orbital fisure
Where does the trigeminal nerve (V) leave the brainstem?
It leaves the lateral part of the pons, the pontopeduncular junction.
Where does the trigeminal nerve pierce the dura mater?
Meckel’s cave
Which parts does the trigeminal nerve (V) divide into?
Ophthalmic division (V1) Maxillary division (V2) Mandibular division (V3)
Where does the ophthalmic division (V1) leave the skull?
Superior orbital fissure
Where does the maxillary division (V2) leave the skull?
It enters the pterygopalatine fossa through the forarmen rotondum
Where does the mandibular division (V3) leave the skull?
It passes though the forarmen ovale to the inferior surface of the base of the skull into the infraperitoneal fossa.
Where does the facial nerve (VII) leave the brainstem?
It leaves the medulla oblongata at the cerebellopontine angle.
