Cranial Nerves Flashcards
CNV1
Ophthalmic division of CNV
CNV1 - innervation
Upper eyelid
Conjunctiva
Cornea
Skin of the root/bridge/top of the nose
CNV2
Maxillary division of CNV
CNV2 - innervation
Skin of lower eyelid
Skin over maxilla
Skin of ala of nose
Skin/mucosa of upper lip
CNV3
Mandibular division of CNV
CNV3 - innervation
Skin over mandible and TMJ
CN III - where does it connect with the CNS
At the junction between the midline and the pons
CN III - how does it exit the cranial cavity?
Through the superior orbital fissure
CN II - contents
Central retinal artery and vein
What surrounds CN II
Subarachnoid space
- this space fills with CSF
What happens if CN III becomes damaged?
Damage of somatic motor innervation of the following:
MR, SR, IR, IO, LPS
CN III nerve palsy
Loss of function of the eye muscles which it innervates
CN III eye position
Look out (LR) and down (SO) - these muscles are still functioning as they are not supplied by CN III
CN IV - location
Only nerve which arises from the dorsum of the brainstem
CN IV nerve palsy
Loss of function of the eye muscle it innervates: SO
